My Other Creations: Notebook using Dina Wakley's Funky Silhouettes

Doodling is the focus of this week's Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge.  My cute little family members went on a camping trip this past week and I had to stay home to hold down the fort.  I missed them terribly and those fond feelings of family are what inspired this notebook cover.  I had fun doodling and coloring and using Dina Wakley's Funky Silhouette stencils.
I started this project with a floral notebook, which I coated with Gesso and then white paint.  While that was drying, I traced two of the funky stencil silhouettes and cut them out of Strathmore Mixed Media paper.  There are two of these funky silhouette stencil sets- one with two "giant" silhouettes and the other with smaller silhouettes.  I like the variety that having both sets offers.  To give this scene the look of a parent and child, I used one of the giant silhouettes from the first set and paired it with one of the smaller silhouettes from the second set.

I doodled and cut out a scallop border and laid out some patterned paper scraps.

Next I whipped out my Prima Oil Pastel Crayons and drew around the silhouettes and the scallop.  After I made the crayon lines, I smudged them with my finger.

I also used the Prima crayons to doodle some circles in the background.  They looked a bit too...circle-y, so I ended up blending them in a lot more.  You can smudge and smear the oil pastels anywhere without adding water.  Next I stamped the "I just love you" sentiment with a stamp from Joggles.  I added a scrap paper circle frame made out of black patterned paper (this plus-sign design is one of my faves- it's from Crate paper's 6x6 Cool Kid paper pad).

When I glued my silhouettes on, I didn't like how it looked, so I tore off the patterned paper scraps I'd had on the bigger silhouette and replaced them with some text paper and a strip of Washi tape instead.  I did some cursive scribbling along the sides of the silhouettes.  I also added acrylic paint to both silhouettes to give them more color.  I flicked on some Dylusions Black Marble spray to create the background splatters and dots.  Then I cut some more patterned paper scraps for the tabs at the top.

Here are the products I used that you can find at Simon Says Stamp:
