My Cards and Tags: Sassy Prima Girl Card
Our theme this week over at the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge blog is "M is for....." I decided to go with "M is for masking tape." I love the texture it can add to any creation. Here's a card I made featuring masking tape and an adorable Prima girl named Natalie:
Usually when I use the Prima girl stamps (designed by the talented Julie Nutting), I make their dresses fancy and their backgrounds subtle. This time I decided to change it up a bit and make a fancy background with a subtle dress.
I created the background by stacking up several strips of patterned paper from Bazzill's "Vintage Lace" line, which I added some stenciling to. Next I whipped out the masking tape and crunched/scrunched some strips onto my background. I painted over various spots of the background (including the tape) with Gesso and acrylic paints. I sponged on Distress Ink for added depth. I made Natalie's dress from a subtle teal paper and adhered it to the background. Then I stamped Natalie onto a piece of overhead transparency film using StazOn ink, cut her out and glued her on top of the dress (kind of backwards, I know). I wasn't sure how it would turn out, but the effect is that she's sort of "fading" into the background in some spots, but still stands out.
Last but not least, I added the following sentiment from Wendy Vecchi's "A Form of Art" stamp set: "Her style was sassy with just a bit of attitude."
These girl stamps from Prima have endless possibilities. Every time I use them, they remind me of my mom and my grandma who taught me how to make paper dolls when I was little. I love that reminiscent feeling and I still enjoy thinking of how I can make each girl's outfit and personality unique.
Here are some of the supplies I used, which you can find at the Simon Says Stamp store:
How will you complete our "M is for....." challenge? I can't wait to see what those clever minds of yours think up! Tutorials: Faux Glassine Bags
Happy National Scrapbook Day! And if you've come here, you've probably hopped your way through the We R Memory Keepers/Lifestyle Crafts Blog Hop and have come from Sew Craft Create. Welcome!
I decided to make some faux glassine bags for my Blog Hop project. Here they are, followed by step-by-step instructions:
I started out with a 12 x 12 sheet of vellum, which was enough for two bags. I cut them out using the ever-versatile Treat Bag die and the Genius Platform.
Next, I sprayed the bags with a shot or two of spray ink and let it run down the length of the unfolded bag.
When the spray ink dried, I folded and glued the bag. You can see how the drip lines make a pattern at the top of the bag when it's folded.
I added some stamping to the background for a little more visual interest.
To finish off the bags, I threw on a few strips of Washi tape in blues and pinks, added some ink around the edges and wah-lah! Done!
There are always so many fun dies and products to check out at We R Memory Keepers/Lifestyle Crafts. So keep on hopping and enjoy the amazing things that my fellow Studio Team members have created. And don't forget to enter the drawing for this stylish crafter's tote!

My Other Creations: Flower Tree
This week's theme for the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge is YELLOW! What a fabulous theme, especially for this time of year!
I decided to make a Flower Tree of sorts, which uses yellow as the main component.
To start off with, I painted a cone with a layer of Gesso and yellow acrylic paint.
Next, I used a gel medium to adhere paper scraps to the cone in a random pattern.
After that, I added some lace, which I colored with Distress Ink, and I punched out some hydrangea flowers, which I hung from metal hangers using embroidery floss. I hung the hangers from the lace on the tree. I also stamped on a sentiment and dabbed Distress Ink onto other parts of the tree.
I topped off the tree with a flower I colored with alcohol ink and water that added a punch of bright pink.
I made the base using a bamboo skewer, which I planted into a spool of yarn and adorned with scalloped circles. It turned out to be a fun and therapeutic tree project that didn't require any digging or weeding!
I used the following fabulous supplies from Simon Says Stamp for my creation:
What a wonderful time of year and what an equally wonderful theme! What magic will you create with yellow as your inspiration? Upload your masterpieces to the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge Blog for your chance to win a $50 voucher to the Simon Says Stamp store.
