"Little Critters" is this week's theme at the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge Blog. I decided to try out my new Flora and Fauna stamp sets, "Happy Place Woodlands" and "Glass Dome," to make this little critter tags.
You can't go wrong with Strathmore Mixed Media paper as a base, from which I cut tag shapes using the Sizzix Tag Collection die set. I stuck strips of washi tape to the background, then painted over everything with acrylic paint. I did some background stamping with Tim Holtz's Sideshow set and Simon Says Stamp's Scribble Flowers set. I added more paint back in to tone down the background stamping. Then I stamped the glass containers over my painted background using Ranger jet Black Archival ink. To make the glass portion stand out, I painted inside the glass shapes with an extra dose of white acrylic paint.
While my paint was drying, and stamped and fussy-cut out the contents for my glass shapes. The flowers are from a stamp set by My Favorite Things called, Sketched Blooms, and all other critters and sentiments come from the Flora and Fauna sets.
I used a white Signo Uni-ball Gel Pen to add some lines to the domes to make them appear more glass-like. I love this white pen, which does a great job of writing boldly even over paint. The only key is that you have to wait for the paint to completely dry (I left mine overnight) in order for the white pen to work well on top of it. I also added some clear droplets here and there, but being the impatient person I am, I took the photos before the glue dried, so some of the droplets in my pics look cloudy even though they dried clear.
Here are the supplies from Simon Says Stamp that I used to make this project:
I enjoy crafting with little critters more than encountering some of them (mosquitoes- I'm talkin' to you!) and I can't wait to see what you create. Upload your creations to the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge Blog for your chance to win a $50 voucher to the Simon Says Stamp store!
