"Stars and Stripes" is this week's theme at the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge Blog. I incorporated both into the background of this quirky little tag.
I started by cutting the tag out of Strathmore Mixed Media paper and smearing it with acrylic paint. Then I used a palette knife to cover some of the color with white paint.
Since the challenge theme involved stripes, I created some by sewing horizontal patterned paper strips across the bottom of my tag.
I added more white paint and some blue paint, then cut and glued on some stars cut with Simon's Holy Stars dies.
Next I stenciled white dots onto the tag, then hit it with some Distress Spray and Distress Stains. I added several tones of brown. Then I cut some paper lace using a Tim Holtz die and added that to the background.
I added a couple more strips of patterned paper and some Tim Holtz Washi tape. Then I stamped and fussy-cut this funny little creature and added him to the front.
That little critter makes me smile every time!

My Cards and Tags: Paper Scrap Cards and Envelopes
"Transport It" is this week's theme at the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge Blog. I decided to make some paper scrap cards and some envelopes to transport them in.
I started with the envelopes. I used a Simon Says Stamp Gift Card Envelope die and cut the shapes out of Strathmore Mixed Media paper. I spritzed them with Distress Ink spray and then added some white paint through a falling snow stencil.
Next I tore some scraps of Stamperia Wonderland paper and glued the scraps to the envelopes. I added some dark shades of paint.
While those dried, I started working on the cards. I started with random scraps of patterned paper.
I layered the scraps onto Strathmore Mixed Media paper and sewed them on with a sewing machine. I did some freestyle sewing to form some wonky oval shapes.
I added acrylic paint to my cards and added some stamped-text paper to the center of the ovals.
To finish my envelopes, I sewed together some mini-piles of paper scraps and glued them to the front.
I flicked some Teakwood alcohol ink onto my envelopes, then typed some words on my We R Memory Keepers typewriter and added those to the front of the envelopes. I folded and glued the envelopes shut and cut off the curved tabs at the top so they were rectangular in shape.
I put my cards and envelopes together and this project was done!
