My Cards and Tags: Tim Holtz Paperdolls with Inky Antics' Crafty Comments Stamp Set

There's a fabulous challenge theme of "Vintage/Times Past" this week over at the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge Blog.  It was almost impossible for me to not go a Tim Holtz route with this one, so I had some fun with his paper dolls and a sentiment from Inky Antics' Crafty Comments stamp set.

I don't typically go with sepia-toned photo components in my projects, but lately I have enjoyed tweaking these paperdolls by adding accessories and some color here and there.  I always think about these people in the photos and what their lives were like.  I hope that they are happy to be immortalized in craft supplies and not mad about being stuck in an over-sized crown or pointy hat forever!  I do look at it as honoring them and keeping them alive through art and not just forgotten in a photo album somewhere.

Here are the supplies I used that you can find at Simon Says Stamp:

My Other Creations: Inky Antics' Roller Bird Stamp

"Things with wheels" is this week's Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge Blog theme.  I was excited to give this new Roller Bird stamp a try, which I designed for Inky Antics.

I love this Sizzix house die and started right in with Strathmore Mixed Media paper, some text stamping (from the Muse News stamp set) and some stenciling with Simon Says Stamps' Falling Snow stencil and white paint.  This is one of my favorite stencils for adding texture.

Next I used the Dina Wakley Spaced Dots stencil.  I colored some of the dots in with Derwent Inktense Colored Pencils, then expanded the color with water and a brush.  These colored pencils do amazing things with water!

Next I added some Tim Holtz Washi tape and did a bunch of coloring with Distress Crayons and acrylic paint in shades of teal, green, blue and yellow.  I also added a pop of pink with Daniel Smith's Opera Pink watercolor paint.  I covered the roof piece with Washi tape as well.

I glued my house pieces together and while that dried, I stamped and fussy-cut my roller skating bird.

Last but not least was assembly.  I used some 3D dots to attach the bird to my house to give him a bit of dimension.
