My Other Creations: Dylusions Creative Dyary Revamp using AALL and Create House Stamps

"Vacation" is the theme of the week at our Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge Blog.  I went with a travel notebook, which I made out of a Dylusions Creative Dyary.  The Creative Dyary has pre-printed calendar pages inside (as opposed to blank sketch pages), so I thought it would serve nicely to chronicle any sort of adventure and keep track of when it happened.

As is the case sometimes with my unplanned-ahead projects, this thing went all over the charts and I changed my mind a lot, so process pics fell by the wayside.  I basically glued a piece of Strathmore Mixed Media to the cover, stuck on some washi tape, then sprayed it with Dylusions ink sprays, then spritzed it with water.  I also added in some stenciled dots, then painted over different areas with gouache paint.

For those of you unfamiliar with gouache paint (like I was), it's kind of a mix between acrylic and watercolor and dries opaque.  It's similar to an acrylic in its general look and consistency (kind of "slicker", though, if that makes any sense), but it's like a watercolor because if you add water to your page after the paint has dried on it, you can still move the color around.  It comes in handy if you've ever thought to yourself, "I wish acrylic paint didn't dry so fast and was easier to blend."  Those are some of gouache's qualities without having to add anything to it.  I don't think gouache is a replacement for acrylics or watercolors, but it's a fun and unique type of paint to experiment with.

After the paint dried, I did some stamping on the cover with Ranger Jet Black Archival ink and some stamps from AALL and Create and Inky Antics.  I also added in some buildings that I cut with a Tim Holtz cityscapes die.

I typed out one of my favorite travel quotes on my We R Memory Makers typewriter and added that to the top of my notebook.  Now on to the adventures so I can fill up these pages!

Here are the supplies I used that you can find at Simon Says Stamp:
