My Other Creations: Dyalog Cover Redo

"Tape it Up" is this week's challenge theme at the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge Blog and it doesn't get much easier for me than that!  I love using Washi tape to add subtle patterns and layers.  I decided to revamp the cover of my Dylusions Dyalog Grid Insert Book for this challenge:

Here's how the book looked before I started:

I got out my palette knife (and my fingers) and covered it with acrylic paint (white, Crimson, and Mediterranean blue).

When that dried, I added Washi tape to the background.  This was a combo of Tim Holtz's Travel tape, his Salvaged tape, and some of Memory Box's Twas the Night tape.

Next I did some stamping on the background with Tim Holtz's Halftone and Rings stamp.  Once the circles were stamped, I filled them in with more acrylic paint.

For the focal point, I used one of Tim Photo Booth girl images and made her a hat.  To make the photo look more aged, I bent it, sanded it and added some staple holes to it.  I glued it to my cover, added a piece of masking tape to the side, and tacked on the hat.  Then I typed out the sentiment on my We R Memory Keepers typewriter and added that on as well.

I DO feel like this girl is the "change the world" type and I love highlighting the power that lies within every single one of us!

My Cards and Tags: Upcycled Clothing Tags using Dina Wakley's Abstract Figures Stamp Set

"Recycle" is the theme of the week here at the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge Blog.  I decided to make good use of some old clothing tags by giving them a face-lift.  Here's the end result:

I don't know when/why I consciously started saving clothing tags, but I found myself sticking the ones I liked into a little jar I had in my craft room.  I don't have any idea of "cool brands" these days and I really don't care, but I found it interesting to see all the different tag styles and fonts once I started paying attention (yep- I'm nerdy like that).

I picked out three tags, slathered them with white gesso, then stenciled some white dots on.

Next I stamped them with a circle-dot shape from Altenew's Halftone Circles set.  I added all sorts of acrylic paint after that.

All that was left to do was stamp and fussy-cut out my silhouettes, then paint and decorate them.  Once they were done, I glued them to the tags.

I cut out crowns and hats to add to my silhouettes.

I used Washi tape to give some additional patterns to my silhouettes and I finished the tags off by tying white twine through the holes.
