My Cards and Tags: Halloween Dog Tags using Waffle Flower's On My Mark Stamps and Dies

This week's theme at the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge Blog is, "It's a Dog's Life."  Even though I am not a pet owner, I do appreciate the adorableness of dogs.  I gave my dogs a Halloween makeover to create three eeeek-tastic tags.

I started with Strathmore Mixed Media paper and my Sizzix Big Shot.  I cut three different tags, then taped the dog die to each one (to ensure the dog shape got cut where I wanted it to) and ran the tags through the Big Shot again.

Now for some color!  I cut scraps of black and white striped paper and glued it to the tags.  I spritzed Dylusions Ink Spray onto the tags, then followed it up with some sprays of water.  The water spreads out the color and blends different ink shades together.  Just to add even more visual oomph, while the water was still wet, I sprinkled some Brushos crystals (black and turquoise) onto the tags.

While my tags were drying out, I worked on my dogs.  I took the dog cut-outs and colored them with ink, then made a hat, cape and eye mask for them.

When my tags were dry, I stamped some spiderwebs on them with embossing ink, sprinkled them with white embossing powder and hit them with the heat gun.  Next I cut the same tag shapes out of black cardstock and glued the black tags to the back of my colored tags (you can see the black showing through my dog cut-out opening.

I added googly eyes to my dogs and some label letters, then I attached each one to its background with some foam dots.  I offset them just a bit so that you can see the black shadow around their edges and the foam dots makes the dogs stand out just a bit from the background.

I added some embroidery floss through the top to be able to tie my tags to gifts.

And now my tags are ready for their October debut!

Here are the supplies I used, which you can find at Simon Says Stamp:

I'm excited to see your dog-inspired creations this week!  Be sure to upload your projects to the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge Blog for your chance to win a $50 voucher to the Simon Says Stamp store.
