Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge: Bookmark using Spellbinders Big Dot Slimline Embossing Folder and Dina Wakley's I Am Stamp Set

Happy last Monday of January 2022!  January is so...long.  And...cold.  And...gray.  And...post-Christmas-blah-y.  And did I mention L-O-N-G??  But we're hanging in there and trying to keep the creative juices flowing instead of freezing, right?  And with that goal in mind, this week's Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge theme is to use an embossing folder.  I made a bookmark using Spellbinders' Big Dot Slimline embossing folder and Dina Wakley's I Am stamp set.

I decided to try a new embossing folder technique, which was to spray Distress Oxide and Dylusions Shimmer Spray on the folder itself, then add paper, then run it through my Big Shot.  I got some good splotchy color as a result!  I also liked the indented side (de-bossed?  Is that a word?) rather than the raised/embossed side, so that's the one I went with for this project.

I thought, as I often do, you can never have too many dots, so I got out my Altenew Halftone stencil and added another layer of white dots.

I needed a focal point and I thought this silhouette from Dina Wakley's I Am stamp set filled the bill nicely.  I stamped it onto my background with Ranger Jet Black Archival ink.  I added some torn strips of text that I stamped (Tim Holtz's Theories stamp set) and some plus signs (courtesy of Altenew's Positivity washi tape).

Next I colored in the silhouette using Scribble Sticks and a bit of Dylusions paint.

I drew some background elements and stamped some vertical lines and designs using Birgit Koopsen's Mixed Media background stamp by Carabelle Studio.  I added the word "powerful" to the top and this bookmark was done!

Here are the supplies I used that you can find at Simon Says Stamp:
