There's nothing like an art journal to get messy in! This week's theme at the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge Blog is art journaling, so I reached for my Dina Wakley 6x6 white journal. The pages are thick and richly-textured so that you end up with a totally different look than what you'd get with a smooth-paper journal. Here's how my page turned out:
I started by spraying my page with Dylusions Shimmer Spray, then spritzing it with water to let the colors blend. I didn't know these shimmer sprays existed until recently and was excited to give them a try since I love the vibrancy of Dylusions paints and sprays. They did not disappoint. The color is as bold as I'd expected but there is a bit of shine added in. It's hard to tell from the photo, but if you angle the page back and forth in the light, the shimmery sheen looks great!
Next I went in with some white acrylic paint, both smeared on and applied through a polka dot stencil.
More color added in! I added some darker blues, greens and purples, then drizzled neon pink along the top of the page, then spritzed it with water and let it drip down. I also stamped on the background with text and a criss-cross plaid stamp. I used a palette knife to add more smears of white on top.
I cut some scallop shapes (both by hand and with a die and die-cutting machine) and glued them to the bottom of the page. I also added on some pieces of Washi tape and some black and white patterned paper.
I darkened the edges a bit with browns and blacks (Distress Crayons), added some final polka dot stamping and the word "make believe" to finish this off.

My Cards and Tags: Halloween Tags using Tim Holtz's Bat Crazy Die
"Spooky" is this week's theme for the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge. Here are three bat tags I created:
I set the circles on my tags to get a rough idea of where they'd be, then I toned down the Washi background with some paint. I also outlined the edges with black paint.
Next I glued the circles to my tags.

I started by covering some Strathmore Mixed Media tags with Washi tape. The tags were cut using Reverse Confetti's Square Window Tag dies.
Next I heat-embossed some Dina Wakley circles, cut them out and watercolored them.
Next I glued the circles to my tags.
All that was left to do was cut some bats and add them to the tags. I stamped some sentiments and added those as well.
