This week's Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge Blog theme is Remember/Thinking of You. This world and our lives, both personally and globally, have experienced so much turmoil. But no matter how dark and depressing things get, moms, in my opinion, continue to carry us and prove that there is still good in the world. I am so grateful for my own parents, for my own mom, who have always kept me grounded in the present and optimistic about the future.
I started by stamping the face onto a tag that I die-cut out of Strathmore Mixed Media paper. I used Ranger Jet Black Archival ink and the Tag Collection die set from Sizzix.
I dabbed Distress Ink onto the background, then added acrylic paint for more intense opaque color in some areas. I used a Tim Holtz holiday stamp set (Seasonal Scribbles) to stamp the orange/pink polka dots onto the hair area.
Next I got out my Prima Water Soluble Oil Pastels and colored in the hair and torso. I love using Water Soluble Oil Pastels because you can leave the lines scribbly-looking and bold or you can smear them and blend the colors in.
I cut out a crown shape and a scallop border from Dina Wakley's Collage Collective 2 (vol. 1), added a bit of paint to what I cut out, and glued them onto my tag. I stamped the word "Star" (also from the Seasonal Scribbles stamp set) and added that to my crown. I stamped on a quote from Impression Obsession's Mom Life set, which is filled with fabulous quotes!
I could've stopped here, maybe should've stopped here, but I thought it needed...something else. So I stenciled some dots onto the background using My Favorite Things' Wonky Dots stencil. I also stamped on another sentiment, also from the Mom Life set. And with that, it was done!
I hope you'll find some time this week to share your work with us! Upload your creations to the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge Blog for your chance to win a $25 voucher to the Simon Says Stamp store!
