This week's Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge theme is Food/Drink. I decided to experiment with some coffee filters. After I colored the coffee filters, I ripped them up and sewed some of the scraps onto tags. Behold the final product!
I started with coffee filters. I laid them flat on my craft mat and went to town inking them up. I started by spritzing each coffee filter with a bit of water. Then I shook on some Infusions colored stain. These stains have built in granules of brown, so the color mixes in with those brown tones and dots. If you want more color to remain, go easy on the water. If you want less color and more of the brown to show up, spray it with more water. Once I sprinkled the Infusions stain granules on, I added one more spritz of water and started adding spray inks, too. I used Distress Oxide spray and Distress Stain spray. The oxides give a more "chalky" look that is less translucent than the Distress Stain spray.
After I let the coffee filters dry out. I ripped them into scraps. I have to admit that I was kind of sad ripping them, though. I liked how the complete coffee filters looked, but I wanted to be able to incorporate them into tags, and I couldn't think of a different way to do that other than ripping them into smaller pieces.
Next I cut two tags out of Tim Holtz's French Industrial paper using a tag die from Maker's Movement. I took some coffee filter scraps and layered them up. Then I stuck a piece of Washi tape onto the scraps and sewed the coffee filter bundles onto my tags. Once that was done, I added some painted polka dots. I also cut sentiments out of a Dina Wakley tissue paper collage collection and these were done!
