Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge: Inspired by a Movie Card using Mama Elephant's Globies Grid Cover Die

What an intriguing theme we have over at the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge Blog this week!  It is "Inspired by a Movie."  As I started thinking about movies I enjoy, I realized I'm pretty picky.  I don't like scary movies, super-dramatic movies, cheesy movies, historically heavy movies, trashy movies, weak-plot movies, movies with tragic endings....the list is extensive. That's not to say that I haven't been impacted by powerful dramatic movies.  After all, who can forget Tom Hanks' anguish at losing Wilson?  Kudos to Tom Hanks for making me care that much about a volleyball.  But these days, I just want some well-crafted, non-gut-wrenching, fluff with substance on the big screen.  Ha!  Is it possible?  Does it exist?  Indeed it does.  I've been inspired by a lot of movies that didn't rip my heart out or give me a plot-induced panic attack or mentally exhaust me for two hours.  An example of the kind of movie I like is The Secret Life of Walter Mitty (the newer Ben Stiller version).  I used a quote from one of the movie's songs (Jose Gonzalez's "Stay Alive") for my card here.

I started by cutting out some Strathmore Mixed Media paper with Mama Elephant's Globies Gird Cover die.  I love the shapes it creates.  I painted around the globe cut-outs and tore out a piece of Dina Wakley's ledger paper to put behind my globes.

Here it is all assembled and ready for the next step!

I created some dark tones by adding Night-colored acrylic paint that was smeared through Altenew's Halftone stencil.  And I saved the globe-shapes that got cut out of the die.  I colored three of them with stripes using Tim Holtz Distress Crayons and cut another three globes out of Vicki Boutin's Color Study patterned paper.

From here it was just a matter of gluing the globes onto the card and then adding more paint and decorations and scraps.  When that was all done, I used a typewriter (yes, I love old typewriters) and typed out the sentiment: Dawn is coming, open your eyes.  This card was done!

Well, you probably learned way more than you ever wanted to about my personal movie preferences, but this was such a great theme that got my mind thinking about movies.

I thoroughly enjoyed this project and these are products I used that you can find at Simon Says Stamp:
